About the Role
Dementia is one of the fastest-growing healthcare challenges in the UK and Germany. 1 in 3 UK care home residents lives with dementia. In Germany, over 1.8 million people have been diagnosed, and the number is growing. Dedicated Dementia Care Specialists who can deliver person-centred memory care are in acute shortage — and are among the most sought-after care professionals in both countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver person-centred dementia care that respects individuality, dignity, and remaining abilities
- Apply specialist dementia care approaches — Validation Therapy, Reminiscence Therapy, life history work
- Manage behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) — anxiety, aggression, wandering, sleep disturbance
- Develop and maintain individualised care plans in collaboration with families and the care team
- Create and lead therapeutic activities that engage residents with cognitive impairment meaningfully
- Educate and support families of residents living with dementia
- Work closely with nurses, GPs, and specialist dementia services
- Contribute to a positive and calm care environment that reduces distress
✅ Must Have
- 2–5 years of direct dementia or memory care experience in a care home, memory ward, or specialist unit
- GNM, ANM, B.Sc Nursing, or recognized care qualification
- Formal dementia-specific training — Dementia Care Mapping, Dementia Champion certification, or equivalent
- English IELTS 6.0+ or OET B for UK | German B1+ for Germany
- Patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to connect with people with severe cognitive impairment
- Understanding of safeguarding, mental capacity, and deprivation of liberty principles (for UK roles)
⭐ Nice to Have
- City & Guilds or RQF Level 3 Dementia Care qualification
- Training in non-pharmacological dementia interventions
- German B2 or above — opens significantly better-paid roles in Germany
- Experience in end-of-life care for dementia residents
- Music therapy, art therapy, or sensory therapy training
- Experience working with families through the dementia journey
