Job Role: Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails + Elixir)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in Ruby, Elixir, and AWS to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend and full-stack applications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building API-driven, data-based products, writing clean, well-tested code, and working in a cloud-native, Agile environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions across the full software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain backend and full-stack applications using Ruby, Elixir, and Ruby on Rails.
2. Build and enhance RESTful APIs and data-driven products.
3. Develop tooling, internal frameworks, and support systems for existing platforms.
4. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with strong automated test coverage.
5. Follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) or best practices for high-quality testing.
6. Participate in code reviews using GitHub and adhere to coding standards.
7. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and propose technical solutions.
8. Work within Agile/Scrum teams, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives using Jira.
9. Deploy, monitor, and support applications in AWS cloud environments.
10. Take ownership of application components, design patterns, and system reliability.
11. Continuously research and adopt emerging technologies and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
2. 5+ years of professional software development experience.
3. Strong proficiency in Ruby and Elixir.
4. Experience with Ruby on Rails (MVC architecture).
5. Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
6. Strong SQL skills with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
7. Experience building RESTful APIs and data-driven applications.
8. Experience with Git, GitHub, and team-based branching workflows.
9. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or similar tools.
10. Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
11. Familiarity with Apache Kafka or other messaging systems.
12. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
13. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

1. Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.).
2. Functional programming background.
3. Experience with microservices architecture.
4. Exposure to monitoring and logging tools.
5. Knowledge of cloud security best practices.

Testing & Quality Standards

1. Strong commitment to automated testing.
2. Experience with TDD or BDD.
3. High test coverage, including 1:1 coverage for most code and higher coverage for critical components.
